As the second-largest federal government agency, The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) currently has 367,000 employees, 9.17 million Veterans Health Care System Enrollees nationwide and 5.5 million recipients of VA benefits. GMP is proud to assist the VA by providing the agency with cutting-edge solutions offered by each of GMP’s 50+ partners. As the VA increases its budget, GMP will be able to further improve the healthcare systems of the VA.
The 2020 discretionary budget proposed by the VA is the agency’s largest budget proposal ever with a 7.5% plan of growth. This budgetary growth indicates a 27% increase in spending since fiscal year (FY) 2015. The VA’s budget proposal currently outlines a plan to spend $4.74B in information technology (IT) modernization. The VA’s 2020 discretionary budget proposal will give GMP more Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) set-aside opportunities which means more contracts won on behalf of our partners.
With over half of GMP’s partners providing innovative IT solutions, the $4.74B outlined in the VA’s spending plans is great news for future business and provides GMP with the ability to continue to provide the very best solutions to veteran and military personnel.
In FY 2019 the VA spent one out of every three contract dollars on small business – of these, SDVOSBs were included. SDVOSBs also took eight spots on the VA’s “Top 10 Performing Small Businesses” list. If 2019 is any indication of what to expect for 2020, SDVOSBs have a lot to look forward to with the VA’s budget proposal.
